Today, 27th November, Mr. Valentin Nikolov, Executive Director of the Kozloduy NPP PLC, officially opened the OSART* Mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Bulgarian Nuclear Power Plant. The review of the 1000 MW Units 5 and 6 to be completed on 13th December 2012 was requested from the IAEA by the government of the Republic of Bulgaria. The mission is aimed at reviewing the operational safety of the Kozloduy NPP based on the IAEA Safety Standards.
The review team consists of 13 nuclear experts from Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, UK and the IAEA. The team members' total professional experience in nuclear amounts to approximately 350 years.

- Management, Organization and Administration
- Training and Qualification
- Operations
- Maintenance
- Technical Support
- Operating Experience
- Radiation Protection
- Chemistry
- Emergency Planning and Preparedness
A key aspect of the review is Safety Culture to be assessed by the experts during the OSART Mission in all the areas. In the course of detailed discussions with the Plant personnel, documentation reviews, and observations on the work, the IAEA team will identify areas for improvement as well as the strengths and good practices in the operation of the Kozloduy NPP for sharing among the nuclear society.
*The OSART Programme (Operational Safety Review Team) was established by the IAEA in 1982. In its framework, the Member States are provided with consultancy and support in order to improve the nuclear power plants' safety.
